Happy 175th Birthday Toronto

Anyone who knows me, knows that I am and will always be from Montreal. It’s an amazing city. However, I have lived so much of my adult life in Toronto that it has really become home for me. There’s something so livable about this city. Despite the a transit system that is sorely underdeveloped and a bit of a reserved attitude… well, I love living in this city. Here are a couple of my favourites…

  • St. Lawrence Market
  • Terroni’s
  • The Boardwalk
  • The CN tower
  • Yorkville
  • Cabbagetown
  • Front Street
  • BCE Centre
  • Mt. Pleasant Cemetery
  • The Annex
  • the green of Don Mills
  • the coming Shops at Don Mills
  • Tom’s Place in Kensington Market
  • walking from Edward’s Gardens to the Lakefront
  • St. Bonaventure’s
  • The Grill at Hart House
  • ? what else ?

  1. I hate living in a socialist country under the guise of democracy. Here’s a few “new” things that you may not have heard about Toronto…we “pay” for our garbage bins & pickup over a certain poundage; we “pay” .10 per grocery bag (not at a No Frills – which means no frills); the liquor stores have eliminated plastic bags … and my favourite…Cars: PST 8% – GST 5%-Gas guzzler tax: $75 to $7,000- Air conditioning tax $100- Federal air tax $100 -License fee $74/year – New Toronto tax: $60/year. Want to move here? We can use the extra cash.

  2. If President Obama wasn’t president….I would. With him in there now, it doesn’t matter. Canada’s fall took 40 odd some years give or take (Thank you Trudeau), however, I’m pretty sure it won’t take that long for the States.

I have to admit that I’m not savvy to politics in general. So what country would you consider as being “governed by a rightest government”? Are you talking about this century or in history? I’ve only lived in Canada since 1968 so no…I’ve never lived in a country governed by the right (in my lifetime).
