Nancy Pelosi, the the Speaker of the House of Representatives in the USA seems to be saying that the US need to rebuild the economy buy limiting the number of poor people who are a burden on the state. Is that not eugenic? This is very scary!

From the Drudge Report: PELOSI SAYS BIRTH CONTROL WILL HELP ECONOMY Sun Jan 25 2009 22:13:43 ET Speaker of the House Nancy Pelosi boldly defended a move to add birth control funding to the new economic “stimulus” package, claiming “contraception will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.” Pelosi, the mother of 5 children and 6 grandchildren, who once said, “Nothing in my life will ever, ever compare to being a mom,” seemed to imply babies are somehow a burden on the treasury. The revelation came during an exchange Sunday morning on ABC’s THIS WEEK.

STEPHANOPOULOS: Hundreds of millions of dollars to expand family planning services. How is that stimulus?

PELOSI: Well, the family planning services reduce cost. They reduce cost. The states are in terrible fiscal budget crises now and part of what we do for children’s health, education and some of those elements are to help the states meet their financial needs. One of those – one of the initiatives you mentioned, the contraception, will reduce costs to the states and to the federal government.

STEPHANOPOULOS: So no apologies for that?

PELOSI: No apologies. No. we have to deal with the consequences of the downturn in our economy.

  1. This is the language of the Democratic Party. They are the party of Choice(Death). Does anyone believe that the President will distance himself from these views. After all the vagueness of hope and change we see that things are more or less the same. Its already politics as usual.

Its obvious that she feels nothing for the poor if reducing them in number through this method is the best option. Aren’t the Democrats supposed to be the party of the poor? This is not how Mother Teresa dealt wit the poor.

Whats more shameful is that she claims to be a devout Catholic. Doesn’t she know that we need people to be consumers to spend money!!

  2. Dear Tom,

The Democrats … the party of the poor? Is this official? Does it figure in their Manifesto?
Is that how political parties define themselves? This is new to me.
‘Tis not possible to compare a political party with a religious person.

  3. Yes Michael, that is generally how they pass themselves off. As someone who follows US politics they tend to paint themselves as the party of the underdog, the down troden, the poor, single mother, gay couple seeking acceptance, and the pregnant feminist seeking to terminate a career ending pregnancy.

No we can’t compare them to a religious person, but how often have you seen the Speaker of the House speak? She does carry an air of holier than thou about her.
